08 Jul 3 Things you can do during the commercial casting off-season
If you’re wondering why you’re agent isn’t getting you out on that many auditions lately don’t worry. It’s not that you’re agent hates you or anything, it’s that there aren’t many auditions out there right now.
During the summer months, people are either vacationing or at the beach so on TV there’s really nothing on except for reruns. Companies with millions on the line don’t want to risk spend money airing commercials during rerun season.
So commercial auditions should start to pick up again at the start of the Fall season when new shows start and as we approach Christmas, things will really pick up.
But what can you the actor do during this down time? Well, here are 3 productive things you can do during the commercial off-season to keep you sharp.
- Take a commercial acting class
When the auditions start up again, you don’t want to be caught feeling rusty. Being an actor means making as much money as possible during the busy season so it can hold you over when there isn’t any work out there.
- Take new headshots
And don’t just take new headshots just because it’s something someone told you to do. You need to approach this in a methodical way. Analyze what commercials played during major events like the Super Bowl, Christmas, and the Back to School season. You’re headshots should reflect the kind of people the companies want holding their products.
- Casting director workshops
Just because the commercial casting directors are on vacation, it doesn’t mean the movie and TV casting directors are. Movies especially are casting actors year around so there’s plenty of opportunities in that area.
