5 More Survival Jobs for Actors

5 More Survival Jobs for Actors

Backstage recently published an article listing the 10 best survival jobs for an actor.

The ten listed were pretty good but not all actors are cut out for data entry temp work. So here’s our list of five more survival jobs for actors trying to live the dream here in Hollywood!

1. Bartender
If you have a knack for mixing drinks, are quick on your feet, and don’t mind late, late nights then being a bartender may be for you.

2. Photographer
Lots of actors go down this route because it’s a great way to make AND save money. Why pay someone $300 – $600 when you could take your own headshots. Be warned, this is a tough gig to get into and requires a lot of time networking with agencies and trumping up business.

3. Uber/Lyft driver
As far as flexibility goes, this one is the best! If you have a car and are willing to put in the hours this can be very good for actors who want to keep their days open for auditions. And you never know who you’ll meet being an Uber/Lyft driver so be sure and have a business card close by just in case!

4. Substitute teacher
This can be a very flexible and fulfilling job and as an actor you’d probably excel at this type of work. It can basically be kind of like educational theatre. You get to stand in front of a group of people and entertain them while teaching them at the same time.

5. Proof reading/copywriting/blogging
Do you have a solid grasp of the English language? Can you write up entertaining and informative listacles? Then a part time job in the writing world may be a great way to make some extra scratch while you work your way to the top of the acting food chain. And who knows, you may end up writing the next ‘Goodwill Hunting’ along the way!
