You hear a lot about what it takes to make it in Hollywood but never about what it takes to get kicked out. Well, read on and if you’re guilty of any of these offenses then stop and check yo self before you wreck yo self!
Being to pushy
Hollywood has stories of actors who wouldn’t take no for an answer and got the part that made them into a star. But it’s filled with more (way more) stories with actors who wouldn’t take no for an answer and got black listed because of it. Just Google ‘Sean Young Catwoman’ and you’ll know what I mean.
Putting bad footage on your reel
We all have a growing phase in our career and for some of us the road to stardom is a little rockier. If you have bad footage, don’t include it in your reel because casting directors will remember a bad performance a lot longer than they will remember a bad headshot.
Being a ‘cookie-cutter actor’
If you’re not getting any parts or even callbacks to auditions it could be your looks but it’s also possible that the choices you make in a scene are boring. If you need help sharpening your acting chops then you may want to look into some training. Read this past blog to find the right teacher for you.
Putting out bad work online
You’ll read a lot of actors say “just grab a camera and start filing”! Well, easier said than done. You could be the next Marlon Brando but if your sound and cinematography sucks then your performance will suffer too. Even if you have to hire people to help you shoot a short film, it’s worth it. It’s much better to put out one or two great pieces online a year then to put a hundred crappy ones.
