Bunker Basics: How to speak Hollywood

bunkerla.comThe entertainment biz here in Hollywood is like any other in that it has its own industry language. The more you understand what the pros are saying the more you’ll be able to communicate with them. Here’s a list of some basic terms and their meanings:

Sides
This is a fancy-pants term for ‘script’.

Being “on avail”
This means that you’re put on “availability” for a commercial. It usually means that the part is down to you or another actor.

Zed Card
This is the headshot for model cards. The size is normally 5.5×8.8 with one image on the front and four images on the back.

Residuals
When you book a national commercial, this is what’s going to pay for that new car. You get residuals for every time you’re commercial is aired.

Wild Spot
A wild spot commercial is somewhere in between a regional commercial and a national commercial. It’s similar to the standard national commercial in that you get residuals for every time it plays but it plays randomly in regions and both cable and network TV.
