It’s how you use your headshot that can determine your success. We’ve discussed in past posts that marketing materials are essential to your career, but where, how, and when to use those tools is more than necessary. Having print marketing materials, but letting them sit in your desk drawer won’t land you jobs. Being proactive about your career and your material usage will take you one step closer to landing your next job. Here are some acting career advice & proactive ways to gain success.
Casting Workshops
On any given day, there’s an abundance of workshops with not only casting professionals, but directors, producers, and agents. These workshops are often offered in a series or a single session. The prices vary, but many are quite reasonable. These are the perfect opportunity to not only showcase your skills, but to get your headshot in a decision makers files. These contacts should always be followed up with a postcard and an addition to your mailing list.
Showcases
Often when you’re involved in a training class with a limited time frame, the organization putting on the education will often times invite industry professionals to an end of session showcase. These are excellent opportunities to be seen by not only those invited guests, but to send out invites to your mailing list as well. Staying in front of decision makers and letting them know you’re actively participating in the success of your career puts you one step closer to your big break.
New Projects
Every single time you are cast in a production – whether it be stage or screen – send out a postcard to your mailing list! This not only keeps you fresh in the minds of those you met, but promotes your project as well. Increasing the audience for your project is a win, but opening the door to more projects is a double-win.
