Quick Tip of the Day: Dress for the part…sorta

To wear a police uniform or not to wear a police uniform for an audition? That is the question.

The general rule for what to wear to an audition is to not come in costume but to wear something that suggests the character. For example, if you’re getting called in to play a doctor, don’t come in wearing scrubs and a stethoscope. Wear something that’s between office casual and business professional clothes.

Of course, there will always be exceptions to the rule and no where will you find exceptions like in the commercial casting world. If you look like you could work in a doctors office or a science lab then you’ll probably want to invest in a lab coat because it isn’t uncommon for commercial casting directors to want people to come in dressed in character.
